Long before it carried its current name, this highland town in the Duvno field was Delminium, a settlement of the Illyrian Dalmatae people and later a Roman administrative center. It was called Županjac through the Middle Ages, renamed Tomislavgrad in 1928 in honor of Croatia's first king, reverted to Duvno under communist rule, and restored by a near-unanimous 1990 referendum.
