First recorded in 1260 as the site of a Catholic abbey, Bihać grew up along the emerald Una River in Bosnia's northwest corner. It later hosted the first wartime session of Yugoslavia's anti-fascist parliament in November 1942, and today serves as the gateway to Una National Park, the country's largest, where the river plunges 24 meters over the Štrbački Buk falls.
