Trollhättan grew up around its namesake waterfalls, tamed by locks and one of Sweden's earliest large hydroelectric power stations in the early 20th century. Car maker Saab built its factory here in 1947, and though Saab is gone, the falls are still released for scheduled summer displays that draw crowds to watch the water thunder down again.
