Mäntsälä's name is permanently tied to a single dramatic event: the 1932 Mäntsälä Rebellion, a failed coup attempt by the far-right Lapua Movement against the Finnish government, which ended the movement's influence. Far quieter today, the municipality about 60 kilometers north of Helsinki has grown into a logistics and commercial center for the region while keeping a rural character, bordered by the forests and trails of Sipoonkorpi National Park.
