Named for the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, whose trading post once stood at the mouth of the Credit River, Mississauga became one of Canada's largest cities only after amalgamating in 1974. Its skyline is punctuated by the curving Absolute Towers, nicknamed the 'Marilyn Monroe Buildings' for their twisting shape. The lakeside village of Port Credit, once a busy stone-hooking harbour, still preserves its 19th-century heritage core.
