Tucked against the Karavanke range in Gorenjska, Tržič built its economy on shoemaking and leather tanning, a trade that peaked in the 20th century with the Peko footwear factory, once one of Yugoslavia's largest shoemakers. Narrow lanes of old tanners' houses along the Mošenik stream still recall the town's craft origins.
