In Walloon Brabant just south of Brussels, Braine-l'Alleud contains most of the actual 1815 Waterloo battlefield, even though the neighbouring village of Waterloo lent its name to history. The artificial Lion's Mound, raised from earth said to be taken from the battlefield itself, marks the spot where the Prince of Orange was wounded, and the nearby Memorial 1815 visitor centre now interprets the battle in depth.
